ByteDance, the parent company behind simple video platforms Douyin and TikTok recently reported that they will develop a new artificial intelligence technology. Where they are developing their own processing chips with the help of TSMC, for the near future, they will reportedly work with Huawei for their machine learning needs.
The collaboration between ByteDance and Huawei is not something new. They have now started using the Huawei Ascend 910B processing chip for inference purposes where it is used to recommend content to users based on previously watched videos.
Reuters reported that for now, ByteDance is interested in buying more of those processing chips for the purpose of machine learning to develop new artificial intelligence technology, although there are no details on that.
This was confirmed by three ByteDance employees, with a fourth employee saying that the company has plans to develop a new artificial intelligence system, but did not give details about the collaboration with Huawei.
ByteDance made this decision apparently because it is increasingly difficult to purchase NVIDIA graphics cards for machine learning purposes, and their own processing chips are seen consuming before they can be leveraged for this purpose.
Interestingly, ByteDance, through a TikTok spokesperson in the United States, Michael Hughes said that the company has no plans to develop new artificial intelligence technology.
