Canon EOS C80 Launches With Full-Frame 26MP Sensor And 6K Recording

The Canon EOS C80 has been launched as a camera with a full-frame sensor designed specifically for filmmakers and live productions. It is also said to be able to continue the success of some previous models as a versatile camera that can produce high quality movies.

For specifications, the EOS C80 is equipped with a full-frame 26.7MP (35mm) CMOS sensor paired with a DIGIC DV 7 image processing chip. A five-axis image stabilization system is included in the camera body that uses this RF Mount lens. The sensor also supports three standard ISO ranges between 800, 3200 and 12,800 for high quality image reproduction. It also features a new Dual Pixel CMOS AF II system with tracking capabilities that cover the entire frame. This system supports human and animal tracking and the faster sensor reading speed allows the autofocus to be more responsive.

The EOS C80 can record video up to 6K/30P using an ultra-wide sensor, or up to 4K/60P via a 35mm sensor when using the Cinema RAW LT ('light') codec. Canon further complements the camera with movie recording formats such as XF-AVC, XF-HEVC S and XF-AVC S which all also support video recording up to 4K/60P in 4:2:2 10 bit color depth. There is also slow motion support for frame rates up to 4K/120P with autofocus up to 120P. Followed by C-Log2 and C-Log3 color gamut profiles along with anamorphic lens modes with 2.0X, 1.8X and 1.3X capabilities.

A wifi connection is also included which allows the camera to be controlled remotely using the Canon Multi-Camera Control app on Apple devices. It includes controls for exposure settings, adjusting focus and so on. The dual SD card slot supports SD, SDHC and SDXC cards which also allow the camera to record the same video through them. The EOS C80 also supports two new batteries BP-A30N and BP-A60N, with a maximum operating capability of 335 minutes for continuous recording.

The selling price is $5499 (~RM23,832) with official sales beginning in November 2024.
