Canva will quietly increase the subscription fee of their service by up to 300% depending on the plan used. According to a report by The Verge, Canva Team customers started receiving emails yesterday saying the AUD $39.99 per month plan for a team has now increased to AUD $40.50 per month for each individual. This is a sharp increase from AUD $480 per year to AUD $2430 per year for a team of five users.
What disappointed Canva Team customers was that no official announcement was made about this price increase on their site. At the time of writing Canva has not yet provided any comment or published a complete list of the new prices of their plans on their official site.
Customers who received the price increase email said the reason given by Canva was to use some recently introduced artificial intelligence (AI) features. Last July they took over the Lenorardo AI firm that produces text-to-image generative AI. Canva's action was criticized by customers because it was seen as a cheaper alternative to Adobe's creative software suite in the office.
