Huawei announced that the HarmonyOS NEXT platform now supports more than 10,000 applications and also meta-services since the latest version of their standalone operating system was launched at the end of 2023. Through these tens of thousands of applications, Huawei says 99.9% of user needs will be met. With this Huawei managed to meet the target of having 5000 HarmonyOS NEXT native applications by the end of 2024.
Adequate application support is necessary because through HarmonyOS NEXT, Android applications can no longer be installed in a session as has been done in Malaysia. In the same development Huawei announced they will spend RMB 6 billion (~RM 3.5 billion) every year to support the developer community through the Huawei Developer Alliance.
In Malaysia, Huawei devices are still using EMUI and as far as we know there are no plans to completely change to HarmonyOS NEXT. If it is done the number of applications offered should be further increased.
In comparison, the Huawei App Gallery with Android-based application support offers over 220,000 applications. Google Play Store offers more than 8 million applications while Apple App Store offers almost 2 million applications.
