The central banks of Malaysia and Cambodia have today launched payment facilities through QR (Quick Response) technology to facilitate non-cash payments when the purchase and sale process takes place in these two countries.
The first phase of this plan involves tourists from Cambodia to Malaysia, who can now use their banking applications such as Bakong and Maybank2U KH to scan DuitNow QR codes at business premises in Malaysia to make payments.
In the second phase to be announced later, tourists from Malaysia to Cambodia can also scan KhmerQR QR codes using QR payment applications from financial institutions that support it.
For now, financial institutions involved in the implementation of cross-border QR payments between Malaysia and Cambodia include the National Bank of Cambodia, PayNet and Maybank as banks that support this collaboration.
