The Minister of Communications, Fahmi Fadzil has now informed that he has requested the MCMC or the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to cancel the implementation of DNS diversion which has been the subject of much discussion for the past few days. Through DNS redirection, all public DNS such as Google, Cloudflare and so on are redirected to the DNS servers owned by the telecommunications company.
This matter was initially seen to curb access to harmful content such as porn, gambling and so on. However, some users also have questions regarding privacy, security and other matters. This at once made the ministry reconsider, and cancel the implementation of this DNS diversion.
However, the ministry informed that SKMM will continue a series of engagements with all stakeholders to gather suggestions and views in achieving the objective of a safer internet.
