Samsung has to pay $192 million in damages to Mojo Mobility for infringing five of the company's wireless charging system patents. The compensation is in the form of $67.5 million for patent infringement and the rest is an ongoing royalty of $1.50 for each Samsung device that uses Mojo Mobility's charging technology.
The suit was filed in 2022 with the court ordering compensation to be paid in January this year. Samsung immediately filed an appeal against the decision but it was rejected last week. Mojo Mobility's wireless charging technology has been used in smartphones, smartwatches, wireless earphones and various other Samsung devices since 2016.
Mojo Mobility said they had met several times with Samsung representatives since 2013 to license their technology but no agreement was reached. Samsung, on the other hand, tried to deny that patent infringement did not occur because the patent was said to be invalid.
