Sony PlayStation 5 Pro Introduced With More Powerful GPU and No Disc Drive

Sony today made a surprise by introducing an update to their console with the offering of a "Pro" model, otherwise known as the PlayStation 5 Pro (PS5 Pro). This console will offer better graphics performance than the PlayStation 5 console which is almost four years old.

PlayStation 5 Pro focuses on three main cores, namely a more powerful GPU, improved Ray Racing capabilities, and also the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in offering better resolution for games called PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution. Another feature that comes with the PS5 Pro is PS5 Pro Game Boost support to allow players to play various existing PS4 games at better quality.

The GPU on PS5 Pro has 67% more Compute Units and also 28% faster memory. The effect is a 45% faster "rendering" capability and ensures that the majority of games can reach the 60FPS target even in graphics-intensive modes. On the PS5, since the beginning the graphics-intensive mode limited the game to only 30FPS mode.

Roughly speaking, through the various demos shown, 4K graphics can be displayed more sharply, high frame rates can be enjoyed and special effects of object reflections have been activated.

Sony will start offering this PlayStation 5 Pro starting November 7, 2024 at a price of $700 (~RM 3040) with 2TB SSD storage but without a built-in Blu-ray disc drive. A separate BD drive can be purchased for RM 529 and is the same one offered on the PS5 update model last February. Let's all look forward to further price offers and sale dates in Malaysia soon.
