SpaceX, owned by Elon Musk, currently controls about two-thirds or 62% of the satellites actively orbiting in space. SpaceX is ready to focus on offering internet services through satellites called Starlink, and has around 6370 active satellites under it.
Starlink internet services are offered in more than 100 countries, including Malaysia itself. Moving forward, more Starlink satellites are expected to be launched into space.
In addition to SpaceX, there are several other firms that are also focusing on more or less the same arena, and one of them is OneWeb based in the UK. However, in terms of numbers, it is only 1/10 of the total number of Starlink satellites.
Several firms in China are also looking at providing services via satellite, and have begun launching satellites into space. Perhaps we will see a change in this dominant figure in the coming years.
