Three consortia have been shortlisted for the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High Speed Rail (HSR KL-SG) project by MyHSR Corporation. According to a Berita Harian report quoting close sources today, the three selected consortiums are Berjaya Rail Sdn Bhd (Berjaya Rail), the YTL Construction Sdn Bhd consortium and the China Railway Construction consortium.
The choice of the company that will be awarded the contract to build the KL-SG HSR is expected to be announced at the end of the uni year. In addition, the project implementation date is also said to be moved to 2030 compared to the original date of 2026.
The construction project of a high-speed train connecting Kuala Lumpur and Singapore has been proposed several times since the 1990s. This 350 kilometer long line (335 km in Malaysia and 15 km in Singapore) aims to shorten the travel time between the two capitals to around 90 minutes compared to 5 hours by car and 7 hours using the existing train. In addition to express services, there are also a one-stop service involving 7 stations.
Malaysia and Singapore agreed to build the HSR in 2013 but the project was later canceled in 2021 before proceeding again in 2023. Malaysia's cancellation resulted in SGD 102.8 million in damages being paid to Singapore.
