WeTransfer was acquired by Bending Spoons in July last year. Today according to TechCrunch, 75% of WeTransfer's more than 300 employees will be laid off by Bending Spoons. The workforce reduction was done to make the WeTransfer team smaller and focus on the product being developed.
This is a common action taken by Blending Spoons after taking over a company. Previously they also fired Evernote and Filmic staff after both were acquired. WeTransfer currently has 80 million monthly users and recently introduced a feature to extend the duration of file links shared online.
