Since Android 10, Google no longer uses the dessert name as the official name of the Android operating system but instead only uses numbers. Even so, for the development of each Android there is still a dessert representative in alphabetical order such as Android 14 with U which is Upside Down Cake, and Android 15 which is V with Vanilla Ice Cream. For Android 16, Google is back to B, which is Baklava.
It is not explained why Google does not connect with the letter W. Another code name for it is SDK version (36) and this will not affect users or even developers. Google also accidentally chose this name because every development process has its current and this name is given according to the development phase of Android 16. After all, even the code name Android B has not been used yet because it started with Android 1.5 Cupcake.
Not only that, for Android 16 Google is reportedly planning to launch as early as the middle of 2025 and not as usual which is in the fourth quarter of every year. Anyway Android 16 development is still in its early stages and any launch date can change at any time. Even the stable Android 15 is not yet widespread, so far only Funtouch OS 15 is available - not even the Pixel 9 has received it yet.
