Arm will revoke the license that allowed Qualcomm to use their architecture to develop chips according to a Bloomberg report. This is a continuation of the dispute between the two companies since 2022, after Qualcomm's takeover of Nuvia prompted Arm to file a lawsuit. Qualcomm was given 60 days' notice that the licensing agreement would be revoked after that period.
Notice was also given two months before the two companies would start court proceedings. The announcement was made during the Snapdragon Summit where Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 8 Elite, Snapdragon Ride Elite and Snapdragon Cockpit Elite chips that use the latest Oryon CPU designed by Nuvia.
Arm filed a lawsuit against Qualcomm and its subsidiary Nuvia for allegedly violating the terms of licensing of technology and intellectual property held by them. The license to use ARM technology by Nuvia expires in March 2022. Qualcomm then allegedly transferred the license they held for use by Nuvia which Arm said violated the terms and conditions.
Arm also said that the chip design produced through the collaboration of Nuvia and Arm before the company was taken over by Qualcomm should be destroyed because it cannot be shared without permission. In order to defend their intellectual property, a lawsuit was filed two years ago.
