Budget 2025 : Roads Will Be Equipped With Smart Traffic Lights and Real Time Vehicle Weight Detectors

In order to further improve the Federal Road infrastructure throughout the country, the government allocated RM175 million to install new street lights and smart traffic lights. This is only part of the provision of road maintenance to prioritize reducing accidents due to unsafe road conditions.

Also announced was RM 2.8 billion to maintain Federal Road. A total of RM 1 billion is reserved to repair non-main roads such as secondary roads, FELDA roads and industrial roads as well as roads damaged by floods. Meanwhile, for state roads, RM 5.5 billion ringgit of the Malaysian Road Records Information System (MARRIS) fund is available.

RM30 million was also provided to continue to take advantage of the role of 115 District Engineers as the front line in speeding up the paving of potholed Federal Roads. Finally, the government agreed to install the High Speed Weight in Motion system in selected locations to curb road accidents due to overloaded vehicles.

This system can detect the weight of the vehicle in real time without it having to stop. On the system used in foreign countries, it can detect the weight of vehicles moving in the speed range of 3-130 km/h. At the beginning of this year, the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Public Works said that the development of the High Speed Weight in Motion system was in the final stages.
