Canalys' latest report shows global PC production increased in the third quarter of 2024, with total shipments of desktops and notebooks (including workstations) of 66.4 million units. Of that amount, 53.5 million units were shipped for notebooks, while the remaining 12.9 million units were for desktop shipments.
Commenting on the report Lenovo, HP and Dell are the top three competitors in the PC market. Lenovo was the leader with an average annual growth rate of 2.8%, in addition to shipments of 16.5 million units. It was followed by HP with a shipment of 13.6 million units in Q3 2024 and ranked second overall.
Dell and ASUS are in third and fourth position with shipments of 9.8 million and 5.5 million units respectively. Despite this ASUS has the highest average annual growth among manufacturers with an increase of 16% year on year. Meanwhile Apple rounded out the chart in fifth place with 5.1 million Mac units shipped.
Although the growth is seen to be moderate, the recovery of this segment is going well with some positive signs that show strong performance in the future. This figure is also expected to continue to increase driven by the introduction of processors with built-in AI cores from Intel, AMD and Qualcomm. In addition, it was helped by a flurry of promotional activities that also helped support growth towards the end of the year.
