Canalys – Global Smartphone Market to Grow 5% in Q3 2024

Global smartphone market performance is reported to grow 5% in Q3 2024, up from -1% in the previous quarter driven by a diverse and competitive global economic environment. Apple recorded the highest shipment through sales of older models, while Samsung maintained its position at the top of the global smartphone market.

Samsung has a market share of 18%, which is basically the same as the total market share gained by Apple through high demand for the iPhone 15 series. However, the main reason for the increase in Apple's shipments is due to the market shift towards premium devices, in addition to their improved product variety as well helps in maintaining competitiveness with other manufacturers. Likewise with the latest iPhone 16 range which is expected to be able to help maintain Apple's momentum to become the largest phone manufacturer for the fourth quarter of 2024.

Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo complete the chart again with an insignificant difference in market share compared to the previous year. Xiaomi reportedly still remains the third largest smartphone manufacturer with a market share of 14%. Oppo currently ranks fourth with a market share of 9% driven by strong growth in India and Latin America. Canalys said Vivo also had a double-digit shipment increase to form a 9% market share.
