China is now a major power in the production of electric cars (EV) with BYD for example holding the largest market in Malaysia in a relatively short period of time. The increase in the number of EVs in Malaysia is starting to cause the problem of limited charging stations. Although China has a good EV charging infrastructure, it is still not 100% able to meet the needs of customers during peak hours.
Therefore, Wuling has shown an EV charging car that also has self-driving capabilities. The vehicle named Mobile Energy Storage Charging Vehicle (MESCV) is offered with a capacity of up to 141 kWh. This is nearly three times the capacity of the most basic Tesla Model 3 battery.
This MESCV was already shown in Guangzhou last week and it is designed to provide assistance to users when the EV dies in the middle of the road or there is no space at the charging station. Although it comes with a self-driving feature, this mobile powerbank can only move at a maximum speed of 5 km/h. Wuling said the MESCV will be sold at a price of around RM183,000 apiece.
