At the Google I/O event last May, anti-spoofing features were announced for Android devices. Last August this feature was first activated for Android users in Brazil in a small-scale testing phase. This past weekend, the feature began rolling out to more Android users globally.
Updates are provided via Google Play Service on devices running at least Android 10. There are two settings that device owners can activate. The first setting will automatically lock the screen when the accelerometer detects the activity of the device being grazed or quickly snapped. The second setting continues to put the device in offline mode as well when the accelerometer detects the same movement.
These two features do not make it easy to track the device but they at least prevent the misuse of personal data or banking applications by thieves. However, so far this feature has not yet been given to users in Malaysia.
