Design And Screen

In this brief test session, we were given the opportunity to test all three models including the mini version which has not been confirmed whether it will be offered in Malaysia or otherwise for the time being. Looking at the exterior styling, the designs of all three are inspired by modern models that have been produced before.

The same elements are used, the Vivo X200 series comes with a kind of glass back, a large round camera bump and ZEISS branding confirming the re-collaboration with the German optical technology specialist. All are also nicely weighted in an effort to strike the ideal balance between stability and general comfort.

Vivo X200 Pro

This new series is available in three versions namely X200, X200 Pro and X200 Pro Mini with every inch of design balanced from various angles to present elegance in comfort to users. For example, the Vivo X200 and X200 Pro feature a curved display concept on the front and back that is paired with a flat metal frame.

Meanwhile, the Vivo X200 Pro Mini is designed with a completely flat front and back to make it easier to hold it closer together with its metal frame. The first time holding the X200 Pro Mini really feels like an iPhone device with a compact body, premium and comfortable in the hand. In addition to the small screen, the back panel is also not easy to trap dirt because the finish is not smooth.

Vivo X200

The screen is larger reaching 6.78-inch LTPO AMOLED as well as 120Hz refresh rate support is used on the Vivo X200 Pro. Meanwhile, the Vivo X200 version is slightly smaller at 6.67-inches while the X200 Pro Mini is 6.31-inches. Both also support an AMOLED panel with FHD+ resolution with a 120Hz refresh rate. This year's bezels are also getting thinner with it getting closer to looking like a full glass panel.

With an AMOLED panel, the screen certainly has good enough color, contrast and viewing angles, especially when used in closed areas. It is also not something new, in fact since the previous generation, this kind of performance can be felt. The screen of all versions of the device is also enhanced with ZEISS Natural Color for the production of natural colors in a content, in addition to further expanding the collaboration between the two companies that goes beyond the camera alone.

Vivo X200 Pro Mini

The biometric capability is a type of optical fingerprint scanner built into the screen with an ergonomic position to perform the unlocking process. In addition to having a face scan system as another option. The right side houses the power button and audio controls. Next, the SIM card slot is placed at the bottom next to the USB-C charging port and the speaker. All devices are also actually equipped with a stereo audio system and officially IP68/IP69 waterproof standards. It's just that again there's no red emitter, 3.5mm audio jack and microSD card support provided.

Hardware And Software

Coming to the internal hardware, for the Vivo X200, X200 Pro and X200 Pro Mini specifications, all three are equipped with the Mediatek Dimensity 9400 processing chip, which is also equipped with generative AI capabilities on the device. This processing chip is produced with the second generation 3nm technology in collaboration between Vivo, ARM and MediaTek. It also promises 35% more powerful performance along with 41% better graphics efficiency.

This should be able to speed up the process of launching applications and reduce battery consumption. Then matched with 40% better Ray Tracing capabilities to make the device reach 90FPS in the Arena Breakout game. Each model also supports memory up to 16G RAM and 1TB internal storage. A combination that is more than adequate then makes it even more interesting when all devices can add memory up to 16GB RAM virtually.

Again it cannot be turned off but instead works automatically directly from the settings column. The software used is OriginOS 5 based on Android 15 which is also integrated with a number of features based on artificial intelligence such as Origin Island, the ability to summarize articles, find image details and others. But we can expect that the FunTouchOS 15 software based on Android 15 will be used on global devices soon.

The Pro version also comes with a new feature that is very useful in emergency situations. This emergency communication system is based on bluetooth connection only. It is developed by Vivo in collaboration with MediaTek. In an emergency situation where no cellular network, internet or satellite connection is blocked, this system can send an SOS message for help up to a distance of 4 kilometers.

In a situation of being trapped in the ruins of a building, for example, this system is the difference between getting help or not. All text messages, voice calls and even information about the physical condition of the body can be sent to the authorities through this system. Vivo has conducted tests with earthquake relief agencies in three locations in China to ensure the system is operating as it should.

Camera Settings

Camera specifications are different depending on the type of device version. The Vivo X200 Pro is equipped with a tri-camera setup of 50MP (1/1.28″ Sony LYT-8180) main + 50MP ultra-wide + 200MP (ISOCELL HP9 1/1.4”) telephoto while powered by the Vivo V3+ imaging chip. It also uses a ZEISS APO 200MP telephoto lens that offers a focal length between 24 to 135mm to allow images to be captured well from both close and far distances. Also ensures high image quality in various scenarios even at high zoom levels.

There is also a Telephoto Macro Mode aimed at capturing sharper images alongside a Landcsape Mode designed to record scenes with the best detail. In addition, Snapshot Mode allows the camera to lock fast-moving subjects and take pictures at the right time. Video recording capabilities have also been upgraded with 8K30FPS video capability, 4K/120FPS slow motion, 10-bit Log and 4K portrait video. It also has ZEISS T* anti-reflective coating technology to ensure accurate color reproduction while reducing glare. The zoom capability is up to 3.8x optical, then increases to 100x digital.

Complementing this is the SLR's CIPA 4.5 level image stabilization which means the camera has passed the CIPA level 4.5 test standard. In addition, it is powered by the latest ISP Vivo V3+ which allows the device's camera to record 4K portrait videos with built-in post-production editing (also known as post-production) functions in addition to supporting video recording with Dolby Vision features.

A total of six focal lengths are offered on the device's camera, namely 24mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm, 100mm and 135mm. There are also seven ZEISS bokeh effects to choose from, consisting of Biotar, B-speed, Sonnar, Plannar, Distagon, Cine-flare and Cinematic. Complementing it is also a bokeh effect control that can be adjusted according to the user's own preferences. As an option, users can also choose a bokeh effect with a focal length that has been adjusted directly through the Portrait Lens Kit feature.

Meanwhile, the Vivo X200 does not have a 200MP sensor like the Pro version but uses a 50MP main camera (IMX921, 1/1.56”) with OIS. Then followed by two more 50MP ultra-wide (15mm) and periscope telephoto (70mm) sensors that also come with 3X optical zoom and 100X digital zoom. Again ZEISS T* anti-reflective coating technology to ensure accurate color reproduction while reducing glare.

Next Vivo X200 Pro Mini also has a ZEISS supported camera setup just like its bigger sibling. A 50MP main camera (Sony LYT-818, 1/1.28”) is placed on the back along with a 50MP ultra-wide (ISOCELL JN) and a 50MP periscope telemacro (3x optical zoom and 100X digital zoom). Other advantages can also be seen when the IPS V3+ chip is used on both the X200 and X200 Pro Mini versions. Not to be left out, a 32MP selfie camera is also loaded on all X200 series devices.

Battery And Charging

All of these new models also offer BlueVolt battery technology developed with ATL to improve battery performance in a variety of environments. It is also claimed to work well even in extremely low temperatures below -20°C. The X200 Pro model has a 6,000mAh battery and the Pro Mini has a 5,700mAh battery. Both also come with 90W wired and 30W wireless fast charging. Meanwhile the X200 model uses a 5,800mAh battery that can be recharged using a 90W fast charging system via a USB-C port. No wireless charging system is provided on the X200 model.

Conclusion

A quick test found that the Vivo X200 series will be a serious contender in the premium flagship phone market. The combination of standing specifications, the camera system is more robust and the design also looks sexier, especially for the Mini version. So we can't wait to review one of these smartphones should it be launched to the global market later to see its capabilities more thoroughly.
