Seven years ago Lilium presented their Lilium Jet flying taxi design that wanted to change the world's public transport industry. But last weekend, Lilium announced they would end operations due to running out of money.
According to the original plan, Lilium Jet will start operations in 2026. Each flying taxi can carry 6 passengers, fly at a speed of 280 km/h and an operational distance of up to 300 km.
Lilium Jet's design is unique among other flying taxis as it is equipped with 36 electric motor engines mounted on wings that can rotate 90 degrees. The wings then rotate forward so that the Lilium Jet can fly horizontally like a conventional airplane.
Although several flying taxi concepts have been announced almost a decade ago, only eHang has started operations in China and Volocopter in Paris. Several other startups have already gone out of business with Lilium being the latest victim.
