The peak of Mount Fuji in Japan is still not covered with snow even though we are now at the end of October. This is the first time this phenomenon has occurred since records were first kept in 1894. Last year, snow began to cover Fuji on October 5. The latest date it happened before was October 26 which was recorded in 2016.
This year saw Japan record 1.76C warmer than normal between June and August. Global climate change is believed to cause summer temperatures to be higher and Mount Fuji still snowless.
Last May the temperature in Southeast Asia was the highest ever recorded with deaths reported in Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam due to heat stroke. A high-profile case went viral on social media just two weeks ago when a student became disabled after being exposed to the sun by a teacher. In June, more than 1300 pilgrims died also believed to be due to extreme temperatures in Saudi Arabia.
