Google Appeals Order to Open App Stores to Third Parties

A few days ago, we reported that Google had lost a court case related to the digital app store monopoly issue, and was now ordered to open their mobile operating system to third-party platforms such as Epic Games, which plans to develop an app store on the Android platform. and also iOS.

Shortly after the decision was announced, Google released a statement that they will act to appeal for the decision to be changed due to several factors.

The first is that if permission is granted for third-party companies to open app stores on their platform, Google is worried that the security of users on their devices will be more difficult to control.

Second, Google says that allowing third-party application stores to be opened on their platform openly will have a side effect on developers as well, where they will need to ensure that their applications can be marketed on third-party application stores that certainly have laws and specifications. separately.

The irony here is that Google also says that users of Android devices and operating systems can get applications from a variety of sources other than the Play Store, such as the side-loading feature, and also third-party application stores from device makers such as Samsung. In fact, Epic Games also offers Fortnite on Android directly through their own website, without the need to go through the Google Play Store.

The issue here, in my opinion if it is true that there are applications that can be downloaded without having to go through verification from the Google Play Store, and Samsung has their own application store, there is no reason why Epic Games cannot open their store as well.

Google's appeal is expected to be heard, but whether they can convince the judge to reverse this decision is not yet known, especially when the United States government itself is seen as wanting to break Google's monopoly in the digital and online realm.
