HarmonyOS Next Will Be Offered Starting This Week In China – No Longer Supporting Android Apps

Huawei will start offering their new generation operating system, HarmonyOS Next starting this week, bringing a new dimension to the operating system, and is completely independent from Android. The HarmonyOS Next operating system will be offered to users of the Mate 60, Mate X5 and also the MatePad Pro 13.2 tablet – in China first.

In the last 2019, Huawei was imposed trade barriers by the United States, thus making them unable to use the Google Play Store. This move led to Huawei developing its own operating system HarmonyOS, as an alternative to Android. In the initial phase of introduction, it still supports the use of APK or Android applications on the operating system.

However, moving forward, Huawei took steps to be completely independent, and now offers HarmonyOS Next which no longer supports Android applications, and requires the use of specific applications for the operating system in question. In China, a number of companies are ready with their app offerings for HarmonyOS Next.

With this development, it is not yet known when Huawei will take steps to also offer the new generation operating system for the global market. Let's all look forward to how this third operating system will continue to lead the market after this.
