IBM also filed a lawsuit against Take-Two Interactive for infringing their patents involving advertising technology, virtual worlds and user identity verification since 2021. The technology is used in video game launchers such as Grand Theft Auto, NBA 2K, and Red Dead Redemption.
According to IBM, they had already discussed with Take-Two earlier this year to license this technology but both parties failed to reach an understanding. Instead, Take-Two continues to fight a lawsuit filed against their subsidiary Zynga for infringement of the same patent. Two weeks ago the court found Zynga guilty of infringing IBM's patents and ordered it to pay $45 million in compensation.
