Intel Core Ultra 200S Series of Processing Chips Launched

Intel has today launched their latest desktop class processor chip series called Intel Core Ultra 200S, which is the first desktop chip series to use the Intel Core Ultra branding. Previously, Intel named this processing chip as Intel Arrow Lake-S as a code name for this CPU series.

Five CPU models were launched, including Intel Core Ultra 9 285K, Intel Core Ultra 7 265K, Intel Core Ultra 7 265KF, Intel Core Ultra 5 245K and Intel Core Ultra 5 245KF.

The most premium model, the Intel Core Ultra 9 285K is seen with 24 physical cores and 24 threads, and once again shows that Intel no longer divides their power threads into two with HyperThreading as before. This was also shown on the previously launched Lunar Lake laptop processor chip.

To make it easier for customers to remember the number of cores present on these CPUs, it is seen that only the Intel Core Ultra 9 285K comes with 24 cores consisting of eight performance cores (P Cores) and 16 efficiency cores (E Cores). Intel Core Ultra 7 265K and Intel Core Ultra 7 265KF come with 20 cores consisting of eight P Cores and 12 E Cores. Intel Core Ultra 5 245K and Intel Core Ultra 245KF come with 14 cores consisting of 6 P Cores and 8 E Cores.

The Intel Core Ultra 200S also comes with an NPU processor for built-in artificial intelligence. However, it comes with an NPU used on an Intel Meteor Lake processing chip with 13 AI TFLOPS, so this CPU series will not receive CoPilot PC+ certification from Microsoft.

If you are wondering about the difference between K and KF series processing chips, the K series processing chip series means that this CPU comes with a manual overclocking feature, while for the KF series, the letter F indicates that it does not have a built-in graphics processing chip, and to enter BIOS menu and so on require a graphics card that needs to be installed on the motherboard.

It should also be noted that this series of processing chips requires you to use a motherboard with an LGA 1851 socket and this socket is only present on the latest Intel Z890 motherboards for now. Intel also confirmed that motherboards with H870 and B860 chipsets will also be introduced later, but for the K and KF series processing chips that will arrive in the market in the near future, the Intel Z890 series motherboards will be sold first.

In the meantime, computers using the Intel Core Ultra 200S series of processing chips will also not support DDR4 memory, and old PC users will have to build a new system from scratch. Even so, it seems that the previous CPU cooler can also be used, although there are reports saying that the hot spot of this new series of CPUs has moved slightly to the upper side.

Intel also confirmed that the Intel Core Ultra 200S series of processing chips will arrive in the global market on October 24, 2024, and will come with a starting price of $294 for the Intel Core Ultra 5 245KF up to $589 for the Intel Core Ultra 9 285K.
