Intel Says Gen-13 and Gen-14 Core Chip Issues Now Resolved

The issue on Intel Core Gen-13 and Core Gen-14 chips causes permanent damage due to excessive voltage being supplied. After becoming aware of this issue, Intel has provided two microcode updates to prevent this issue from occurring in the future. In a statement provided to The Verge, Intel said this overvoltage issue will no longer occur on the chips of these two processor chip families.

Intel also confirmed that the problem that caused the affected chip to need to be replaced with this new chip was caused by Vmin Shift. With microcode updates already provided in June and August, Intel also said the same issue will not affect Core Gen-13 and Core Gen-14 chips in laptops, Lunar Lake and Arrow Lake.

As we previously reported, Intel had to provide a five-year warranty to Core Gen-13 and Core Gen-14 buyers to restore public confidence.
