LG's Older Smart TVs Start Receiving 5-Year WebOS Update Support With Google Cast

For a long time, LG smart televisions with webOS did not support Chromecast or the newly named Google Cast. This support was first given to new model televisions launched this year, then, LG televisions in hotels and user-owned televisions will only receive updates starting in 2025.

This update seems to be given early. According to a FlatPanelsHD report, the 2023 LG C3 and LG G3 have already started receiving the webOS 24 update with Google Cast. More interestingly, update support for existing model televisions is now supported for five years. Through the webOS ReNew program, OLED/QNED/LCD televisions in 2023 will receive webOS 24, 25, 26 and 27 updates. While televisions in 2022 will receive webOS 23, 24, 25 and 26.

This indirectly makes LG televisions more worth owning. Not only does Google Cast support give users more flexibility, but it also supports updates that ensure LG televisions can last for a long time. This update is rolling out in stages to users in America and Europe first.
