A few weeks ago, Meta announced Movie Gen to generate videos based on text or image promos and also generate audio for video backgrounds. To help further develop Movie Gen's capabilities, Meta has partnered with Blumhouse for assistance in development.
Blumhouse for those who don't know is the production studio of popular horror films such as the Halloween franchise, Get Out, M3GAN, The Vigil, Speak No Evil, The Black Phone and many more. For the initial phase, several filmmakers under Blumhouse have been selected to use Movie Gen in the making of their respective short horror films. Meta shared that all the creators of this movie told Movie Gen really helped a lot in terms of inspiring. For example, Movie Gen can generate the atmosphere that wants to be recorded for the film crew to see how it wants to be produced in real life.
The touch of artist and human is still needed with Movie Gen by Meta this is a helper for filmmakers in the future. So far the filmmakers involved are Aneesh Chaganty (Searching, Run), The Spurlock Sisters (The Breakline), and Casey Affleck (I'm Still Here, Light of My Life). In 2025, Meta will open up this collaboration opportunity with more other filmmakers, artists and other creative people. This is more or less the same strategy by OpenAI for Sora.
