It is exciting to see generative artificial intelligence technology developing but it is sad when this good technology is misused for fraudulent purposes. Among the things that have happened is using the faces of celebrities or famous people in deceptive advertisements like what happened to Khairul Aming. To curb this problem, Meta began testing facial recognition features with AI.
This widespread problem is known as celeb-bait, which is fishing for people with the faces of famous individuals. This feature will compare reported fake ads with image data from the individual's Facebook and Instagram profiles. When it is confirmed to be false, then the ad is deleted. Meta also emphasized that no face data is stored because this feature is only used to prevent fraud, any data will be deleted after the fake ads are successfully blocked.
The feature was tested on a group of famous individuals first and according to Meta, they have received positive feedback. At the same time, Meta also started testing the selfie video recording feature to recover locked accounts after they were found to have been taken over by fraudsters. The same concept, Meta will use video data and compare with other face data available on Facebook and Instagram users.
