PCIe Gen3 SSD Production Will Be Phased Out In The Near Future

SSD storage using the PCIe Gen3 standard has been introduced since around 2010, and at that time, it represented fast computer storage for the first time. The operating system can be started in seconds, and access to files, websites and computer games can also be done quickly.

However, technological advances have shown much faster storage standards, such as PCIe Gen4 and PCIe Gen5 which now promise data reading and writing rates 3 to 4 times faster than PCIe Gen3 and now, both standards are seen to be offered by default on desktop computer motherboards. In fact, modern laptops also typically all use PCIe Gen4 storage only.

Because of this, it has been reported that SSD storage makers are seen to be phasing out PCIe Gen3 SSD production. Technically, high-capacity PCIe Gen3 M.2 storage has been discontinued, but it seems that the demand for SSDs with small storage is still high, and because of this, production of such storage is still continuing.

So far it is not known when the SSD brands will stop the production of PCIe Gen3 SSD completely. With how the consumer market and also the enterprise sector in general have now started to move to PCIe Gen4, Gen5 and Gen6 storage, it would not be surprising if the PCIe Gen3 storage option will disappear directly from the market in the near future.

In fact, now it can be seen that data centers are also more concerned with the speed of reading and writing data not only for the purpose of speeding up artificial intelligence technology, but data centers that store data for video streaming also now need high-speed storage to allow them to stream high-resolution content at high rates which is fast.
