Tesla Cybercab Shown – Will Be Operational By 2027

At the We Robot event this morning, Tesla finally showed off two of its latest self-driving vehicles called Cybercab. According to Elon Musk, Robocab can carry two passengers with no steering wheel or control pedals because it has full self-driving capabilities. The cabin is simply equipped with a giant touch screen.

At this point the full FSD software will be fully tested in Texas and California using the Model 3, Model Y and Cybertruck. The Cybercab service is predicted to be offered before 2027 according to Musk with the cost of building a vehicle around $30,000 apiece.

The design of the Cybercab is similar to the Model 3 in the front with a boxy back like a Cybertruck in the back. The front and rear lights use an elongated row of LEDs. The door opens upwards like a Lamborghini car. In the demo shown, the Robocab's door opens by itself when it detects the presence of a passenger.

When not carrying passengers, the Cybercab will be charged using a wireless charging system with an inductively charged battery. No demo of how this system operates is shown. On display is a robotic system that cleans the cab's interior, removes trash and cleans the touch screen.

More information about where Cybercab will operate has yet to be revealed. Elon Musk simply reiterated that the same self-driving capability will be given to other Tesla vehicles with owners then able to generate revenue by offering their EV to the public as a taxi as well.
