Tesla Showcases Wireless Charging System For Cybercab

Last week Tesla showed off the Cybercab self-driving taxi. The new vehicle being developed by Tesla does not require a human driver, thus making it not equipped with a steering wheel or control pedals. As the vehicle is driverless, it can only be charged using a wireless charging system – details of which were not announced at last week's We Robot event.

Recently, Tesla finally showed the design of this wireless charging system. It is a square shaped box on the surface of the road. The Cybercab will back up to place the charger on the charging induction plate located between the rear tire axles.

Based on the shared animation, it was also revealed that the Cybercab's battery capacity is around 40KWh which allows each of these taxis to travel up to 320 km on a single full charge. Short travel distance, but if it is only used in urban areas for short trips, this is not a big issue.
