The Government Will Examine The Use Of Emergency Notifications On Smartphones For Flood Warning Alerts

On many modern smartphones today, it comes with the support of an emergency notification system - which is often used by some countries for warning notifications, such as earthquakes. Most recently, the Minister of Communications stated that the government will examine the use of the system for flood warning notifications.

This step is seen as more efficient than using SMS or sirens. Usually, through the emergency notification system, it will display the notification directly on the user's screen, without having to open any application. Alerts will be displayed directly on the screen, allowing nearby users to prepare accordingly.

The Minister stated that he would discuss with MCMC what telecommunication companies can do to assist the National Disaster Management Agency and the Malaysian Meteorological Department in relation to this matter.
