Last week, the chip produced by TSMC was found to be the Huawei Ascend 910B artificial intelligence (AI) chip, although the Chinese giant has been subject to technological barriers by the United States. Following this discovery, TSMC has suspended the delivery of the chips involved to Sophgo, the Chinese company that was found to be the original orderer of the chips.
Sophgo is a company involved in designing the chips that are then used in Bitmain's cryptocurrency mining machines. They have issued a statement stating that they comply with all laws to ensure that they do not deal with Huawei.
Sophgo does not know how their designed chips fell into the hands of Huawei. A report has already been sent to TSMC to prove that they are not involved in trying to bypass the technology barriers imposed by America on Huawei.
The trade and technology war between America and China has been going on for more than five years. In order to curb China's technological development, barriers are imposed using the excuse of national security. The hurdles involve software, hardware producing chips and even buying the most powerful AI chips to China. Recently high tariffs have been imposed on solar panels, steel and EV cars made in China.
