USB4 2.0 Cable Now Certified With 80Gbps Data Transmission Rate And 240W Power Transmission

The USB4 power and data transmission plug standard is now more commonly used since its launch a few years ago. Previously, it came with a data transmission capability of 40Gbps and also an electric power flow as high as 100W, which is powerful enough to charge various smart devices as well as thin and light laptops.

USB-IF, the USB plug standards body is reported to officially launch the latest USB4 2.0 format in December 2024, and recently, it seems that cables for the latest USB4 standard have already been tested and are now certified with better specifications than before.

The official USB4 2.0 cable is seen to be able to present a data transmission rate as fast as 80Gbps, double that of the previous format, and come with support for two classes of power transmission, namely 60W and 240W, more than twice compared to the original USB4 offering.

USB4 2.0 is also seen supporting output to displays via a DisplayPort Passthrough connection with support for displays with 8K resolution (7680 x 4320) at a 60Hz refresh rate. To support all of these new specifications, a desktop or laptop computer must come with a host controller component that supports the PCIe 5.0 x4 interface.
