Valve Confirms That Steam Deck Console Will Not Be Updated Every Year

The Steam Deck can be seen as one of the first mainstream PC gaming consoles to hit the market for purchase. When it was first launched, it used its own Steam OS operating system and powered games purchased on the Steam online computer game store platform.

Since then, Valve has introduced a new iteration called the Steam Deck OLED that features a variety of new updates in terms of offering an OLED screen with a 90Hz refresh rate, a much larger storage offering, and even a battery with a slightly higher capacity than the original. .

Many are wondering whether Valve will introduce Steam Deck 2, or the latest version when AMD is expected to introduce the AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme processing chip early next year.

In an interview with Reviews.org, where they have reported that the original Steam Deck and Steam Deck OLED are finally officially on sale in Australia, Valve also seems to confirm that the Steam Deck will not be a device that will be updated every year when the company - processing chip companies introduce new components.

According to Steven Yang, the designer of Steam Deck, he said that although AMD and Intel are seen to be present with new components such as Intel Lunar Lake, and AMD Ryzen 300 AI, the improvement in terms of performance is not satisfactory enough at the moment to change the processing chip components in the offering themselves.

This stance is seen as Nintendo who launched the Nintendo Switch console in March 2017, more than seven years ago, and where only now do we know that they will introduce a new console around next year.

Steam Deck was launched at the end of February 2022 using the Van Gogh processing chip which uses the AMD Ryzen Zen 2 and RDNA 2 chips, and since that date, AMD has launched a series of CPUs which use the AMD Zen5 processing chip, while the RDNA 4 graphics processing chip will be introduced at the beginning next year.

Steam Deck seems to be waiting for improvements in terms of performance and power efficiency before upgrading existing consoles. In Malaysia, Steam Deck can be bought as an import, and so far it has not yet been officially offered, although we can already buy other consoles such as ASUS ROG Ally X, Lenovo Legion Go and even MSI Claw.
