Western Digital Splits Their Hard Drive And Flash Storage Business Into Two Divisions

Western Digital is a familiar name for their digital storage offerings, from hard drive components to SSDs to NAS storage and external storage that can be leveraged in a variety of ways depending on usage patterns.

It has just been reported that Western Digital will now separate their hard drive and flash storage offerings (SSD, SD/MicroSD cards) into two parts, namely Western Digital and SanDisk.

SanDisk, as you know, is a subsidiary of Western Digital that usually focuses more on storage that uses NAND storage components such as SSD and also MicroSD card storage.

For consumers, the separation of Western Digital's business is seen to make it easier for them to make product selections. In short, any product that uses a hard disk, regardless of components or external storage, NAS and so on will be labeled under Western Digital.

While for all their products that use SSD storage or NAND storage will be rebranded under the SanDisk name. To make this separation even easier, both the Westerndigital.com and Sandisk.com websites have received new updates, with the first website showing all hard drive products only, while the second website shows products that use flash/NAND storage. only

Most of the products offered by these brands technically already come with matching branding, and some hard drive products that use labels such as SanDisk Professional will be changed to Western Digital later.

The separation of these two brands has technically been happening since October 2023, and now Western Digital is announcing this separation as it relates to branding and customer service. Western Digital is seen to take care of hard drive products and components, while SanDisk will be responsible for NAND storage products.
