Wimbledon Replaces Human Lineskeepers With AI Starting 2025

Wimbledon is one of the four Grand Slam events in tennis that take place each year. The greens at Wimbledon used human linesmen but starting next year, the 147-year tradition ends as they will be replaced by artificial intelligence (AI). Only one human referee will be needed hereafter.

The Live Electronic Line Calling (Live ELC) linesman system was tested at this year's Wimbledon event with great success. Because of this, the All England Lawn Tennis Club, which organizes the event, said AI technology is now ready to replace human linesmen to detect the ball leaving the court and any fouls committed by the players.

With this only the French Open becomes the only Grand Slam event that still uses human linesmen to judge the results on the court.
