AI Is Now Used To Waste Phone Line Scammers' Time



Every day there is news of victims of online and telephone scams that cause huge losses to victims. The government has done various awareness campaigns but the cases are increasing. In the United Kingdom, telecommunications company O2 is using artificial intelligence to fight fraud using phone lines.



The bot named Daisy plays the role of an old woman who is often a victim of fraud. Daisy will waste the scammer's time by answering questions slowly and not following the instructions given. It works with Daisy's phone number deliberately entered into a database that scammers use to find victims.


The artificial intelligence was developed by O2 with the help of Jim Browning, a YouTuber known for his content that likes to waste the time of fraudsters, reveal their identities and damage the computer systems used.


O2 hopes that with scammers busy calling Daisy, they won't have time to scam victims in the real world.
