Apple is ready to move little by little to the use of self-developed hardware. Apart from the main chip that powers a device, Apple is now also in the process of developing WiFi and Bluetooth communication chips. According to the latest sharing through Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is expected to use its own WiFi and Bluetooth chips as early as the iPhone 17.
In addition, it was also shared that the iPhone SE4 scheduled for the first half of 2024 is expected to be powered by a 5G chip developed by Apple, but still dependent on a WiFi chip by Broadcom. On the iPhone 17 later, the transition is expected to be done entirely to chips developed by Apple.
For information, Apple previously took over Intel's modem division, and set up a dedicated team in the development of modems for their devices. With this step, Apple further reduces the dependence on other parties, in addition to continuing to strengthen their own internal ecosystem.
