Devices using BOE-issued screens may be banned from sale in the United States. This is after the International Trade Commission (ITC) of the United States found BOE infringing Samsung's OLED screen patent. The ITC however rejected Samsung's request at this point to ban the import of devices with BOE OLED panels into the United States.
However, Samsung has already asked the ITC to re-evaluate their application with the final decision to be announced in March 2025. If Samsung's request is accepted, smartphones such as the OnePlus 13 and Motorola Razr will be banned for using OLED panels. In addition to smartphones, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold laptop will also be affected.
It will also have an impact on the future of the fourth generation iPhone SE which will use a BOE panel entirely. The ITC had previously banned the sale of some Apple Watch models to the United States after it was found to be infringing on Masimo Corp.'s patents.
