Disney+ Price Raised to Encourage Users to Subscribe to Plans with Ads

This year, many monthly subscription fees for streaming platforms have been raised. Recently Netflix and a few months ago Disney+. Most recently, Disney CEO Bob Iger accidentally revealed why Disney is raising the price of Disney+ subscriptions.

In the United States, the Disney+ subscription price is $15.99 (~RM71.34) per month for premium and $9.99 (~RM44.57) for basic with ads. Then for account sharing there is also an additional charge like Netflix which starts at $6.99 (~RM31.18).

Iger accidentally admitted that the price was raised to encourage users to subscribe to plans with ads. Disney realized that the number of users was increasing after the plan with ads was introduced. Plans with ads are also known as AVOD [Ad-based Video On Demand] plans which are seen to attract many advertisers to get returns based on ARPU [average revenue per user].

In Malaysia, there is still no streaming platform offering subscription plans with ads. Current monthly prices start from RM24.90 for basic, RM39.90 for Premium plan, RM79.90 for 3 months subscription of Premium plan and RM289.90 for 1 year subscription of Premium plan.
