A few days ago we reported that the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) would order Google to sell Chrome, ban agreements to use Search exclusively and prevent Android from being required to include Google services. Today officially, the DOJ gave this instruction to Google through a document filed yesterday according to the AP report.
Google was found guilty of practicing monopolistic business, especially in online search and advertising. Currently Search holds 90% of the search engine market and over 66% of the web browser market. This gives Google the advantage to advertise their own services making it difficult for other companies to compete.
The DOJ will also ask Google to share Search results with competitors. This latest directive will mean that Google will no longer be able to pay Apple to use Search as the default search engine on their devices.
Google has not commented on the DOJ order but previously said it would appeal after being found guilty of monopolistic business.
