Elon Musk's career trajectory now involves involvement in government management when he and Vivek Ramaswamy were appointed to lead the US Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) this morning. The announcement was made by the future president Donald Trump that DOGE will become an external advisory board to increase the productivity of civil servants.
While still campaigning as the presidential candidate of the Republican party, Ramaswamy proposed to cut 70% of civil servants which he said was one of the sources of waste. Musk also fired the majority of Twitter's staff shortly after taking over the social media platform because it was also said to be wasteful.
Among other measures that DOGE will take to improve efficiency is to cut wasteful spending and reduce government-controlled regulations. In a statement issued by Trump, he saw DOGE's efforts as the Manhattan Project for the current generation.
How Elon Musk will do his job at DOGE is still a question mark because he already heads Tesla and SpaceX and is actively involved with the management of X even though the company has a CEO.
