In Europe, there are several companies that focus on the development of their own search engines, with specific features. Two of them, now announced the formation of a joint venture in developing its own specialized web index. The two companies in question are Qwant and Ecosia.
Qwant is a search engine with a focus on privacy, while Ecosia is a search engine that uses income to plant trees.
By developing their own index, they can reduce their dependence on the giants Bing and Google in powering their search engines. At the same time, it is also expected to reduce operating costs because there is no need to use APIs by Microsoft or Google.
This transition is expected to allow them to do more innovation based on the web index developed by them, as well as being ready for the integration of artificial intelligence support generated on search engines, like some other providers.
This joint venture company will be called European Search Perspective, and will be owned 50:50 by both search engine companies. The use of web indexes on both search engines is expected to be implemented starting in 2025.
