At the beginning of this year, JEDEC has introduced a new memory format called CAMM2 where it is a memory stick that can be installed horizontally on the motherboard. This format is seen to be usable for both desktop and laptop computer builds, and shows quite fast speeds.
Recently, JEDEC, the body behind the memory and storage standards has made an announcement regarding the standards for this LPDDR5 CAMM2 memory connection. It is named LP5CAMM2 and will be used to parallelize the development of CAMM2 type memory in the future.
In a nutshell, this standard will help in improving signal integrity between memory, motherboard and CPU, reduce electricity consumption compared to normal LPDDR5 memory and allow this memory to come with a more compact design compared to normal memory offerings, especially with the height of the Z-axis. same as before.
Examples of LPDDR5 CAMM2 memory have already been introduced by brands such as Kingston and G.SKILL, but for now, it is not yet ready for use because only two prototype motherboard models show support for this type of memory at the moment.
