Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) will move completely towards using a cashless ticket purchase system, starting 1 January 2025. It was announced by KTMB on Friday (1 November) which also involves major KTMB stations in the Klang Valley, North, South and East Coast .
This step was taken to form a more efficient society in line with the government's aspirations to transform Malaysia into a digitization-driven country. At the same time, further strengthening the transition towards cash-free requirements in the future.
So far, KTMB stations, especially in the Klang Valley and the North, have been equipped with kiosk machines for the purchase of commuter tickets and electric trains (ETS). The same goes for the main station on the East Coast that has a kiosk machine for purchasing Timuran Rakyat Express and Timuran Shuttle tickets.
It's just that the kiosk machines at stations in the South (apart from Johor Bahru Sentral and Kempas Baru Stations) are said to only start operating after the construction of the Gemas-Johor Bahru Electric Double Track Project (Gemas-JB EDTP) is fully completed.
As an option, KTMB also provides a ticket purchase process through existing channels such as KITS (KTMB Integrated Ticketing System), which is also said to have more than 3 million registered accounts for the purchase of various travel tickets so far.
