LG Display has managed to produce a screen that can be stretched up to 50% of the original length. In a demo exhibited at the LG Science Park last Sunday, this type of micro LED screen can be pulled from 12-inches to 18-inches without any damage.
At the same time, this screen can also be twisted and folded with a pixel density of 100 ppi. Two years ago LG showed the first prototype of their stretchable screen but at that time the limit of the stretchable screen was only up to 20%. Each panel is also only 40μm thick and can withstand being pulled up to 10,000 times without any change to the image description displayed.
This technology can not only be used on smart devices but LG showed a demo of it being used in vehicles. Buttons will pop up on the screen's originally flat surface.
