Malaysia Airlines announced that it will provide free unlimited WiFi service to all passengers using its Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft by the end of 2024. Malaysia Airlines has already provided free MHConnect WiFi service to all passengers on Airbus A350-900, Airbus A330-300 and Airbus A330 aircraft -200 since November 2023.
Currently, Malaysia Airlines has four Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft with 21 more to begin operations by 2026. All of these aircraft are no longer equipped with in-flight entertainment (IFE) systems to reduce costs and see the trend of passengers who are now more comfortable watching content through smart devices personal.
This is in line with the cabin configuration without IFE that will be introduced in Boeing 737-800 NG aircraft from 2022 onwards. The Boeing 737 series is the longest continuously used series by Malaysia Airlines since 1972 with the Max 8 model starting operations from August 2023. Compared to other 737 models, the Max series can carry more passengers but reduce fuel consumption through more efficient engines.
