Tan Sri Ananda Krishnan, a prominent business figure and one of Malaysia's richest tycoons, passed away a short while ago at the age of 86. His passing was confirmed by his investment holding company, Usaha Tegas Sdn Bhd, but the cause of death has not yet been announced.
Ananda Krishnan was known as the founder and chairman of several large companies such as Maxis Bhd, Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd, MEASAT Satellite Systems and Bumi Armada Bhd. He was also listed as the 6th richest individual in Malaysia and 667th in the world by Forbes with a net worth of $5.1 billion (RM22.7 billion).
Ananda was born in Brickfield, Kuala Lumpur in 1938 and received his early education at Sekolah Tamil Vivekananda Kuala Lumpur and later at Victoria Institution. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree from the University of Melbourne, Australia before pursuing his Masters in Business Administration at Harvard University. The deceased is survived by three children.
